Reflexiones en torno a los usos de la red social Facebook en bibliotecas de Argentina

En el transcurso de las últimas dos décadas, las tecnologías de información y comunicación generaron transformaciones significativas en el quehacer cotidiano de las bibliotecas. Entre ellas se destaca la migración paulatina desde lo impreso hacia producciones y modos de comunicación digitales, mediante boletines electrónicos y listas de distribución por correo electrónico, servicios de mensajería instantánea y chats, consultas vía webs institucionales, sindicación de contenidos, videoconferencias, blogs y la utilización de redes sociales comerciales, en particular, Facebook. Creada en 2004, Facebook permite comunicarse e intercambiar información, a partir de determinadas secciones: muro, fotos, eventos, videos y notas, entre otras. A la vez, se puede utilizar un servicio de chat, postear mensajes en otros muros, actualizar y compartir estados, formar grupos según distintos intereses, poner “me gusta” en las publicaciones y etiquetar a otras personas, entre otras cuestiones. Deep Learning of Retinal Imaging: A Useful Tool for Coronary Artery Calcium Score Prediction in Diabetic Patients

Previous studies suggest that retina blood vessels provide relevant information on cardiovascular risk. Retina fundus imaging (RFI) is a cheap medical imaging test that is already regularly performed in diabetic population as screening of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Since diabetes is a major cause of CVD, we wanted to explore the use Deep Learning architectures on RFI as a tool for predicting CV risk in this population. Particularly, we use the coronary artery calcium (CAC) score as a marker, and train a convolutional neural network (CNN) to predict whether it surpasses a certain threshold defined by experts. The preliminary experiments on a reduced set of clinically verified patients show promising accuracies. In addition, we observed that elementary clinical data is positively correlated with the risk of suffering from a CV disease. We found that the results from both informational cues are complementary, and we propose two applications that can benefit from the combination of image analysis and clinical data.This research was funded by “RTI2018-095232-B-C22” grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (FEDER funds)

Geocodificación: caso de estudio de la implementación de un SIG para el centro comercial de Concepción del Uruguay

Un sistema de información geográfica (SIG) permite capturar, almacenar, manipular, analizar y mostrar información geográficamente referenciada a fin de resolver problemas complejos de planificación y gestión. En el marco de un estudio del sector comercial de la ciudad de Concepción del Uruguay se presentó el problema de modelado e implementación de un SIG, y particularmente la problemática de la geocodificación de los datos relevados. Si bien existen métodos genéricos de geocodificación, cada caso posee características particulares. En este trabajo se presenta la solución de geocodificación de puntos que se aplicó dentro del Estudio del Perfil y Características del Sector Comercial de la ciudad, para la ubicación espacial de los comercios relevados.Sociedad Argentina de Informática e Investigación Operativ

Presence and uses of Facebook in popular libraries of La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada (Argentine)

En el artículo se analiza el uso de la red social Facebook por parte de bibliotecas populares de La Plata, Berisso y Ensenada (Argentina). Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica, se expone el procedimiento metodológico utilizado en la identificación de estas instituciones, la constatación del empleo de esta red social y los usos que cada una hace de la herramienta en cuestión, a partir de variables como: cantidad de seguidores, cantidad y tipos de publicaciones, características de la interacción con el entorno, entre otras. En los resultados se efectúa un análisis, de tipo cuantitativo, de las variables establecidas, destacándose un caso atípico por la cantidad de seguidores, posteos e interacción con la comunidad. Diabetic Retinopathy and Skin Tissue Advanced Glycation End Products Are Biomarkers of Cardiovascular Events in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

The aim of this study is to evaluate whether the presence of diabetic retinopathy and accumulation of advanced glycation end-products in subcutaneous tissue can help identify patients at high risk of cardiovascular events. For this purpose, we conducted a prospective study (mean follow-up: 4.35 years) comprising 200 subjects with type 2 diabetes with no history of clinical cardiovascular disease and 60 non-diabetic controls matched by age and sex. The primary outcome was defined as the composite of myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, stroke, lower limb amputation or cardiovascular death. The Cox proportional hazard multiple regression analysis was used to determine the independent predictors of cardiovascular events. The patients with type 2 diabetes had significantly more cardiovascular events than the non-diabetic subjects. Apart from the classic factors such as age, sex and coronary artery calcium score, we observed that the diabetic retinopathy and advanced glycation end-products in subcutaneous tissue were independent predictors of cardiovascular events. We conclude that the diabetic retinopathy and advanced glycation end-products in subcutaneous tissue could be useful biomarkers for selecting type 2 diabetic patients in whom the screening for cardiovascular disease should be prioritized, thereby creating more personalized and cost-effective medicine.This research was funded by grants from the Spanish Institute of Health (ISCIII) in the setting of Integrative Excellence Projects (PIE 2013/27) and the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD Pilot Research Grant Programme for Innovative Measurement of Diabetes Outcomes 2017).
